Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Putin have jointly opposed the U.S. plan for the Golden Dome and the deployment of weapons in space in a joint statement. The Golden Dome will be a multi-layered system similar to Israel's Iron Dome, capable of detecting and destroying external ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles in the atmosphere. However, the Golden Dome will be slightly different from the Iron Dome because it will use a swarm of thousands of artificial satellites in space to cover the entire Earth. In addition, the U.S. also plans to deploy military weapons in space.
Both leaders issued a joint statement saying, 'This significantly increases the risk of conflicts in space, adds to the militarization of outer space, and turns it into a place for armed confrontation, which is against the principles of the peaceful use of outer space... and makes an already difficult situation even more severe.'
